Question 1

What is NovaPrimeAlpha?

Accepted Answer

NovaPrimeAlpha is an investment decision-support system designed for sophisticated individual investors, RIAs, wealth advisors, and lean investment teams. It unifies portfolio attribution, constraint-aware construction, Mean-Variance Optimization (MVO), Black-Litterman portfolio optimization, scenario simulation, liquidity analysis, rebalance planning, and a Research Lab in a single web-based workflow. Holdings can be imported via SnapTrade brokerage integration, CSV upload, or manual entry.

Question 2

What is portfolio attribution software?

Accepted Answer

Portfolio attribution software decomposes portfolio returns to identify what is driving performance — and what is not. It breaks down returns by factor (momentum, value, quality, size), sector, and individual security, comparing the portfolio against a benchmark. NovaPrimeAlpha's attribution module provides sector and factor context so portfolio managers and investors can understand whether outperformance or underperformance is due to allocation decisions, security selection, or market conditions.

Question 3

What is Mean-Variance Optimization (MVO)?

Accepted Answer

Mean-Variance Optimization (MVO) is the foundational framework of modern portfolio theory, developed by Harry Markowitz. It identifies the optimal asset allocation that maximizes expected return for a given level of risk — or minimizes risk for a target return — by analyzing the expected returns, variances, and covariances of assets. The result is the efficient frontier: the set of portfolios that offer the best possible return for each level of risk. MVO is ideal for quantitatively driven allocation decisions with well-defined return and covariance estimates.

Question 4

How does Black-Litterman optimization work?

Accepted Answer

The Black-Litterman model is an advanced Bayesian portfolio optimization framework developed at Goldman Sachs. It starts from market equilibrium returns — implied by current market capitalizations — and blends them with the investor's own views on expected asset returns. The model adjusts allocations proportionally to the investor's conviction in each view, producing more stable and intuitive portfolios than pure MVO. Black-Litterman reduces sensitivity to estimation error and avoids the extreme corner solutions that unconstrained MVO often produces. It is particularly well-suited for portfolio managers who have specific views on sectors, factors, or individual securities.

Question 5

What is the difference between portfolio construction and portfolio optimization?

Accepted Answer

Portfolio construction is the process of selecting and sizing positions to build a portfolio that meets investment objectives, constraints, and mandates — defining what to hold and in what proportions. Portfolio optimization is a mathematical process that finds the best allocation given a set of inputs (expected returns, risk estimates, constraints) and an objective function (maximize return, minimize risk, or maximize Sharpe ratio). In practice, construction sets the framework and constraints; optimization finds the efficient solution within that framework. NovaPrimeAlpha supports both: constraint-aware construction tools for the qualitative and mandate-driven decisions, and MVO or Black-Litterman optimization for the quantitative allocation step.

Question 6

What is SnapTrade and how does it work with NovaPrimeAlpha?

Accepted Answer

SnapTrade is a brokerage integration platform that provides read-only access to holdings and account data across major brokerages. NovaPrimeAlpha uses SnapTrade to allow users to import their live portfolio holdings directly from their brokerage accounts without manual data entry or CSV exports. The integration is read-only — NovaPrimeAlpha cannot place trades — and is designed to keep portfolio data current for attribution, optimization, and rebalance planning workflows.

Question 7

Who is NovaPrimeAlpha designed for?

Accepted Answer

NovaPrimeAlpha is designed for three primary audiences: sophisticated individual investors who want institutional-grade portfolio construction and optimization tools for their own holdings; RIAs and wealth advisors who need a consistent, structured portfolio decision process across client accounts; and lean investment teams — analysts and portfolio managers at small to mid-sized firms — who need attribution, optimization, and rebalance workflows without the overhead of an enterprise platform.

Question 8

How much does NovaPrimeAlpha cost?

Accepted Answer

NovaPrimeAlpha plans start at $60 per month for the Standard tier. The Advanced tier is $85 per month. Enterprise Team plans are $95 per seat per month. Enterprise Custom pricing is available for larger teams with specific requirements. All plans include access to the full portfolio attribution, construction, optimization, simulation, and rebalance planning workflow. Billing is available monthly, quarterly, semiannually, or annually.
